Cricut Certification

The Cricut is an advanced cutting machine used to cut out almost any shape or design. All work is done using the program Cricut Design Space. Upload your design/picture to Design Space and add it to your canvas. Ensure items on the canvas are the size you want them to be in real life. Sizes are measured in inches. If you are just cutting the shape out, set the shape to "Basic Cut" near the color selector. If you are printing stickers, set it to "Print then Cut." If you want objects to stay in the same spot relative to each other when cutting, select the and click "Attach" in the bottom right. If you have objects overlapping, select them and click "Flatten" in the bottom right if you only want the outer edges to be cut out. Ask an employee if you need help navigating the Design Space. 

When you are ready to cut, ensure you have the machine set to "Cricut Maker," then click the "Make" button in the top right. Select the material size that is the same as the size of the paper, vinyl, or fabric you are using. Press continue and connect your device to the machine. If you are using print then cut, send the file to the printer. Ensure you select "Use System Dialog" and " when printing on campus, as that is the only way to print in color. After printing, place your material on the mat so that it looks exactly the same as the preview. Select your material, load the mat into the machine, and press the start button. When the machine is done, unload the mat and peel all materials off the mat. Replace the plastic sheet when putting the mat away to ensure it stays sticky.

Let a Makerspace employee know if the blade in the Cricut has become dull and needs to be replaced.

Control Measures: 

• Operating the Cricut cutting Machine not prescribed in the enclosed instructions or other official Cricut materials may result in serious injury.  

• This Product is intended for indoor use in dry locations only.  

• Do not use in or near water. Disconnect electrical power before servicing or cleaning. 
  
  

Operation: risk of physical injury 

Control Measures:  

• Do not place your fingers or other objects in the Cricut cutting Machine while connected to electrical power, or while the machine is powered on or during cutting operations.  

• Rapid movements of the cutting carriage during operation may cause bodily injury and/or damage the machine.  

• The machine is intended to be operated by an adult. 
  
  

Blade Changes: risk of physical injury resulting from improper maintenance and repair   

Control Measures: 

• Blades may need to be replaced. Ask an employee for assistance, DO NOT attempt to replace.
