Power Tools Certification

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) must be work at all times. This includes safety glasses and work gloves. Other PPE, such as ear protection or respiratory masks, may be required. Anything that can be caught in the tool such as jewelry, loose clothing, or long hair must be tied back or removed. Unplug tools before installing, adjusting, or changing any attachment. Maintain a solid footing and good balance when using the tools, and make sure to hold or brace the tool securely. Be aware of the surrounding environment. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. 

If a tool appears to be damaged, do not use it and let an employee know. If a tool or material heats up or starts smoking, stop immediately and let an employee know.

Electrical Safety: Electrical Shock

•  Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. 
•  Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts.
  Operating: Physical injury
•  Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication.
•  Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection.
•  Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up, or carrying tool.
•  Some dust created by using power tool can be harmful to the body. Use caution to limit exposure to the dust.
•  Do not force the power tool.
•  Use the correct power tool for your application.
•  Transporting batteries can possibly cause fires if the battery terminals inadvertently come in contact with conductive materials such as keys, coins, hand tools and the like.
